JANUARY 2012: SAVE, Inc.
A good neighbor to the Athenaeum, SAVE, Inc. is the leading social service agency dedicated to providing housing solutions for individuals and families with or at risk for HIV/AIDS in the Kansas City Metro Area.
SAVE was founded in 1986 by a group of volunteers when they established SAVE Home in midtown with the first 24-hour hospice care especially for AIDS patients in the state of Missouri. From this humble act, SAVE has grown into an entity that helps nearly 700 individuals and families every month maintain a safe, stable and affordable home.
SAVE, Inc. serves a 15-county radius and offers assisted living, referral service, rent and utility assistance, emergency assistance and transitional and permanent housing.

FEBRUARY 2012: Boys and Girls Clubs of greater Kansas City
No one else in Kansas City besides the Boys & Girls Clubs is offering affordable youth programming located in the toughest neighborhoods.
Last club year we learned more about the Boys and Girls Clubs at one of our dinner programs. Last summer when the lack of places for young people to go in the City came to the forefront it came to us that these Clubs provide exactly what everyone was talking about!
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City provide a fun and safe environment for your ages 5 to 18. A place to learn, play, make new friends and grow. With sports, digital arts and media, group activities and tutoring, this organization provides top-quality programs to thousands of area youth every day.
School's Out -- No Problem. Before and after school, snow days, some holidays, Saturdays and school out days the Clubs provide an active, engaging and safe place for nearly 7,000 area youth.
Visit bgc-gkc.org for more about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City.

MARCH 2012: Ben's Fund
One of our most inspirational luncheon programs last club year was given by Megan Cote, mother of Ben Cote, who died at age 8 after suffering from a horrific and rare cancer. Ben loved animals and in his brief life did a great deal for their benefit. In memorandum to Ben, his parents, sister and friends established Ben's Fund to benefit the Morris Animal Foundation's Veterinary Student Scholars Program.
Read the story and see why we became devoted to supporting this fund after hearing from Ben's Mom. Visit bensfund.org for more about Ben's Fund for Animal Health.

October 2011 collection will purchase a grave marker for the Athenaeum's first president, Mary Harmon Weeks (1894-1896.)
A respected educator, Mary Weeks helped establish hundreds of PTA groups throughout Missouri. She led the Athenaeum in convincing the Kansas City Board of Education to set up public kindergartens in 1899. Sadly, when she died in 1940, no marker was placed on her grave in Elmwood Cemetery.
